This week had to set up accounts on both Pinterest and
Diigo.
The first section of this weeks task was easy as Pinterest
is a site I used regularly and enjoy.
However this was not the case
with Diigo, I had not heard of this site and when I asked some friends had they
ever heard of it a common theme emerged that Diigo isn’t hugely popular amount
students within my friends circle. I completed some research into what Diigo
was and found the following information: “Diigo is a free social bookmarking,
research, and knowledge sharing tool created to mimic the ease of taking notes
while providing a network for sharing and discovering information. Diigo allows
you to take personal notes and highlight text information on web pages just as
you would on a piece of paper. Instantly, Diigo sounded like a very useful
website, especially for college. To learn to trade of Diigo, we were asked to
read a short article about mash-ups and to bookmark it. Before we were able to
bookmark it, we needed to add the Diigolet button to our browser. We also added
different tags, such as UCD, IS20010 etc to our article so that it would be easy
to find for other users of the same interests. Seven different features of
Diigo include highlighting, taking notes, screenshots, searching, collaborating
and using groups, bibliographies, and sharing.”
